Last month, MOL Logistics (Netherlands) B.V. signed an agreement with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo to use sustainable aviation fuel during cargo flights. As a freight forwarder, we also want to give our partners the opportunity to join the SAF programme for achieving sustainability targets in this area. Sustainable aviation fuel is one of the keys to reducing our carbon footprint, but it is not yet widely available. Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or SAF, is aviation fuel made from renewable resources and a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel. It perfectly matches conventional aviation fuel and fits all engines on all aircraft, without affecting current processes or operations. SAF proactively reduces emissions by at least 75% compared to fossil fuels and contributes to a circular economy.
KLM only purchases SAF produced from raw materials that do not have a negative impact on biodiversity and/or food production. This sustainable fuel meets the criteria of the Roundtable of Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB).
100 years of partnership with KLM Cargo
MOL Logistics (Netherlands) has been a partner of KLM Cargo in the Netherlands for almost 100 years. MOL Logistics originated from Wassing BV in Tilburg and, like KLM, was founded in 1919. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, a Japanese listed shipping and logistics service provider, acquired Wassing in 1990. Since then, MOL Logistics (Netherlands) has been part of a global organisation with representation in more than 50 countries.
MOL Group and sustainability
KLM’s partnership with MOL Logistics (Netherlands) is in line with the extensive policies on sustainability, safety and social responsibility pursued by the MOL Group worldwide. With, among other things, a fleet of more than 700 ships, this has a huge impact. In Tilburg, the company is currently working hard to make the warehouses of MOL Logistics’ home base in the Netherlands completely carbon-neutral.
