Rail freight: a zero-carbon and cost effective solution

Benefit of Railroad Transport

Rail freight carries higher benefits than ocean freight when it comes to transit time and is definitely more convenient than air freight when it comes to transportation costs.

In addition, a combined rail / truck transportation, using the latter only for short distances, can be proved beneficial due to the almost full electrification of rail transport, resulting in reduced CO2 emissions.

Promoting sustainability

Following the launch of China-to-Europe rail freight service in March 2011, rail freight has gained rapid traction. MOL UK is actively taking steps to become more sustainable, and promoting rail freight along with our team in Europe and China is one of them.

We believe that rail freight fits perfectly into our Green project in the UK, and one of our VIP clients has already expressed interest. Our current plans include providing FCL service between Xian and Immingham every two weeks with a transit time of twenty days, if there is no congestion.

UK rail transport

Even though the majority of our customers still use Ocean and Air Freight, with a few opting for a Sea-Air combination, MOL UK Import is extensively using Rail Transport for inland cargo movements.

At present, all goods arriving at Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway are delivered to their final destination to Scotland by rail.
