Strike at Felixstowe Port

By MOL Logistics

In the coming days, the port’s workforce will be on strike for eight days.

A strike has been announced to take place at Felixstowe Port at the end of August. From Sunday 21st August to Monday 29th August, the largest port in the UK will be closed for 8 days, causing inevitable delays and backlogs.

Reason for the strike

Union Unite and Hutchison Ports have failed to reach an agreement following an offer to revise the wages.

The strike will affect the whole workforce: crane drivers, machine operators, and stevedores, who are all responsible for loading and unloading containers.

MOL’s plan

Our team will be monitoring the situation closely since this will have a negative impact on both import and export.

When it comes to imports, shipping lines may cancel calls at Felixstowe or transfer them to other ports in the UK or EU countries – Antwerp, for example. We will, however, try to gain as much information as possible from the shipping lines or co-loaders so as to avoid delays, additional costs, or detentions, keeping our customers informed every step of the way.

In the case of exports, although the strike may still cause disruptions, we will try to arrange departures from other UK ports, such as Southampton and London Gateway, etc. to prevent further delays.
