What is volumetric weight? Volumetric weight is a calculation that indicates the relationship between space and weight. Less dense shipments create more volume compared to their actual weight. Carriers use this to determine which weight is greater: the volumetric weight or the actual weight.

Volumetric weight provides insight into the space your shipment occupies in relation to its density. It is used to determine the greater of the two weight categories:
The higher weight is often used as the basis for further processing.
Air freight: lengte x breedte x hoogte (cm) gedeeld door 6.000 is volumegewicht in kg.
Zeevracht (LCL): 1 CBM is gelijk aan 1.000 kg, het facturabele gewicht is dus de hoogste van de twee.
Wegtransport: lengte x breedte x hoogte (cm) gedeeld door 3.000 is volumegewicht in kg.
De vervoerder vergelijkt het volumegewicht met het werkelijke gewicht en factureert het hoogste cijfer.
Een pallet van 120 x 80 x 160 cm weegt 250 kg.
Buitenmaten omvatten de pallet, krat of doos, niet alleen het product erin. Overhang, uitstekende delen van pallets en rekfolie dragen allemaal bij aan het facturabele volume.
